A few minutes of inspection before you leave the dock can save you a stranded afternoon on the lake โ€” or worse, an expensive repair. Our certified technicians put together this quick pre-trip checklist that takes less than ten minutes.

1. Check Your Engine Oil and Fluid Levels

Low oil is one of the most common and most preventable causes of engine failure on the water. Check the dipstick before every trip, and keep an eye on coolant and power steering fluid as well if your boat has them.

2. Inspect the Bilge and Bilge Pump

Make sure your bilge is dry and your bilge pump is functioning. A pump that doesn't activate when it should is one of the most overlooked safety issues we see in the shop.

3. Look Over Your Battery Connections

Corrosion on battery terminals is a leading cause of no-start situations at the dock. A quick visual check โ€” and a wire brush if you see buildup โ€” takes thirty seconds and prevents a frustrating morning.

4. Check Your Drive Belt and Hoses

Cracking, fraying, or soft spots in belts and hoses are early warning signs of failure. These are inexpensive to replace proactively and expensive to deal with if they fail mid-lake.

5. Test Your Navigation Lights and Horn

Required safety equipment that's easy to forget about until you need it. A quick test before you leave the dock means you're covered if your day on the water runs later than planned.
